Are there any hidden nasties in mineral/certified organic makeup?

Stephy Wephy asked:

Everybody says how mineral makeup is so good for you over regular foundation, but I am not all that convinced. I’ve heard that many packages do say mineral, but are still mainly fillers. I do not want to damage my skin by buying regular foundation/makeup and have been considering mineral makeup, but a bit daunted over the prices… I want to know if they are worth it and if there are any catches to them.

I have also done some research on it, but the problem is most info I find is off cosmetic sites trying to sell their products so that info is probably not all that reliable.

I don’t about all the ingredients, but i can tell you that I have very sensitive acne-prone skin, and I’ve been wearing mineral makeup (ID Escentuals) for 2 years or so now, and I love it.

It does give great coverage, feels great, and does NOT irritate my skin. You do have to be careful what brand you use; I used another one I ordered off of the tv first and although the coverage was good, it was too reflective and I looked like the tin man when I used it. But the brand I use now is great.

I just saw in Sephora’s latest catalog that they now have a nighttime mineral treatment meant to improve skin - it won a “best of” 2006 award…I’m definitely going to give it a try after the success I’ve had with the foundations.

Also, the drugstore versions were not out when i started using this, so I’ve never tried the cheaper ones - if you’re hesitant to invest, maybe try a cheapie one of those. Then again, the TV infomercials usually have a money-back guarantee deal, which will ensure you’re using a high-quality product and getting a taste of the real thing.

    Good luck!

Here’s an article called, “The Dirt on Mineral Makeup”

On this page a dermatologist says that some mineral makeup is just normal makeup with minerals added.

I’ve tried Bare Minerals (an expensive brand) and Physicians Formula Mineral Wear (a cheaper, drugstore brand). I really like Bare Minerals but I can’t afford to wear it every day. The cost would be about $40-70 a month. I use the cheaper brand for everyday and I save the Bare Minerals for special occasions.
